After an incredibly beautiful spring, the rainy season is upon us! This was probably one of the most gloomy 4th of July’s I can remember, it was drizzly all day, (the 4th I spent in Portland, OR was worse, I can remember being frozen to the core while sitting at a baseball game in jeans and a hoodie), so at least it was warm. And we still had a great time despite the weather. Since there aren’t many 4th of July festivities being held in Japan (haha) we went to the festival on base. There was a lot of food! BBQ ribs, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, corn on the cob, etc.
And what is the 4th of July without fireworks? They put on a 20 minute show, though the first few minutes the fireworks were hidden in the rain clouds. I especially loved the mix of patriotic music that the AFN was blasting to accompany the show. So what could be more American than watching fireworks, in the rain, on the 4th of July, in Japan?! Happy 4th!!
